Our company ethos and products

The idea behind our products it to provide an alternative to the traditional paraffin fragrance scented wax products, which are known to burn for a shorter periods of time and include chemical oils which some people are sensitive to. In addition paraffin is derived from petroleum (fossil fuel) which is non-renewable and does not burn as clean compared to soy wax. This is the reason why our products only use 100% soy wax along with carefully blended essential oils/absolute oils to provide a luxury and clean candle experience. We are also a strong believer of sustainability and supporting the local economy, as such the ingredients to which that goes into the making/packaging of the candle are all sourced from local companies and are mostly recyclable.

How did it all start?

It all started on the run up to Christmas when our founder Chen Ng was studying for his Master’s degree. As a student he did not have a lot of money to spare even though he was working part time to pay for his bills, because of this he decided to hand craft wax melts and candles as gifts for his family and friends. Since he wanted the gifts to be special and different he looked into soy candle and essential oils, through trial and error he managed to create his first ever successful batch of soy wax melts and candles. It was all the positive feedback that he received from his family and friends, which prompted him to further delve into candle making. Sadly as the academic year went by the amount of work also increased accordingly, this resulted in 12 months of on and off testing of candle making. It was not until he finished his studies that he had more time trial and test new recipes for his candles. It then took another 3 months to perfect his series of products. Since sustainability was a big topic in both his undergraduate and post graduate studies, he incorporated the ideology into the company and products and that was how the Olora brand was born.
